The Imperial Dining car

Dining car A3 was ordered from Germany at the same time as the Tsar’s Saloon in 1869. Externally it was identical to the Tsar’s Saloon, but differed internally by having a dining saloon at one end and smaller compartments at the other. One smaller compartment was for dishing out food delivered from the kitchen, while a second was divided into a corridor and accommodation for the carriage intendent.

The dining saloon had a long centre table, made up of smaller ones, with eighteen light coloured dining chairs with wicker seats. The ceiling, walls and furniture were made of American walnut. Green and brown oilcloth lined the end walls.

It was converted into a 3rd Class passenger coach in 1924.
