The heating van

The heating of the Imperial train was augmented by a heating van of uncertain design. A goods van used for the Imperial Train is recorded in the stock lists for 1910. A design for such a van was proposed in 1897 that never materialised.

In 1916, records mention a new heating van constructed in the style of a four-wheeled guard’s van. It was equipped with steam boiler and water cistern, while a small dynamo operated by steam from the boiler provided the van with electric lighting. This vehicle was no longer in the 1938 stock list.
