Items from the Tsar's wash table

Image 1: The monogram of Tsar Alexander II etched into the wash table mirror frame. The monogram not only symbolised to the Finns his headship as Russian emperor over the Grand Duchy, but also the strides of national progress made during his reign.

Image 2: Detail of the Tsar’s wash table. A tap marked with the monogram of Tsar Alexander II.

Image 3: A wash compartment chair from the Tsar’s Saloon. The chair differed from the other furniture, being in the Empire style rather than Rococo Revival. The chair woodcarving is in Empire style, its seat back and cushion are upholstered in white silk. Castors were under the front legs.
