By Rail

Two trains per hour from directions of Helsinki and Riihimäki. R trains stop at the station of Hyvinkää. From the station there is a 10-minute walk to the Railway Museum. There is also a taxi rank opposite the station. The journey from Helsinki takes about 40 minutes. Timetables and tickets: VR timetables.

By Car

Museum’s address is Hyvinkäänkatu 9. Use the motorway 3/E12 and take the junction 16. Then follow the signs of the Finnish Railway Museum (Suomen Rautatiemuseo). There is a free car park near the museum entrance.

Restrooms are located in the museum’s entrance hall and at the end of the locomotive shed.

Lockable lockers are available in the museum’s entrance hall.

Barrier-free access to the exhibition halls and locomotive shed. Exhibition buildings are not barrier-free due to stairs.

Assistance dogs with proper markings are welcome to the museum.

Museum area

  • Entrance and museum shop

    The ticket and sales desk, public conveniences, and museum shop for souvenirs and books are situated at the entrance. Coffee can be enjoyed here when the summer café is closed.

  • Exhibition halls

    A wide variety of restored locomotives and rolling stock is on display. The selection includes the superb royal coaches of the Russian Emperors, the Heritage Train Valtteri and many other interesting items.

  • Engine roundhouse

    Here the visitor can experience the genuine atmosphere of an engine shed. The roundhouse contains locomotives dating from different eras and shows a repair
    shop of yesteryear. The children’s workshop is situated at the far end of the building.

  • Station building

    The wooden station building of the former Hyvinkää–Hanko private railway has been restored to its
    former 1873 condition. The interior has typical facilities such as booking office and waiting rooms for general public and upper-class ladies.

  • Barracks

    A building formerly used to house railway families, known as the barracks, presents the development of the railway network in Finland. There is also a display of uniforms
    and a presentation of railway occupations.

  • Summer Café

    The small and cozy summer café sells refreshments and snacks during the summer season. The café is situated in the former bakery cottage where railway workers and
    their families baked bread and other pastries in the olden days.
