The Finnish Railway Museum Summer Season Opening

Päivämäärä:
10.06.2017

Summer season in the Finnish Railway Museum begins at Saturday 10.6.2017. On the opening day there are activities meant especially for the families.

During the day the “Leena” steam engine carries passengers on the museum’s track from 11 am to 3 pm. On Leena’s III-class car you can experience the olden days travelling atmosphere. Tickets 2 €, children under 7 years free. Around the turntable area you may also see the museum’s Dm7 diesel car which has been renovated back to operable condition. During the 1950–1970’s Dm7 diesel cars were popular vehicles on the Finnish railways and the renovation project is part of the Finnish Railway Museum’s celebration of the independent Finland’s centenary in 2017. Dm7 will be on show between 10.30 and 3 pm. Occasionally the Dm7 also drives passengers in the turntable area.

In the old railway station in the museum’s courtyard there is a pop-up art exhibition. The art exhibition consists of train drawings that children have left to the museum.  Inside the station children can also build and play on a big Brio-train track. The playground in the station is open 10 am – 12 noon and 14 pm – 16 pm. You may bring your own Brio-compatible toys with you to the museum. Just remember to mark them carefully so that you will find them after you have stopped playing.

Refreshments and snacks can be bought from the museum’s charming summer café, which opens its doors for the summer season.

Also the museum’s miniature park train starts operating and drives passengers of all ages around the picturesque museum park. The service is conditional to the weather conditions. After the opening, the little train operates every day between 10.6.2016 – 13.8.2016 (except for the mid-summer fest 23.6.-25.6.).

The museum is open during the summer season opening day 10 am – 5 pm.
